Tyre change services entail rotation or replacement.
What is Rotation?
Tyre rotation is a process where each tire and wheel is removed from your vehicle and moved to a different position to ensure that all tires wear at the same pace. This makes tyres last longer and also improves performance of your tyres.
Manufacturers recommend that tyres should be rotated at every 9,000 to 12,000km. Monthly or random inspection for tire wear is very important. Once a first sign of irregular wear is noticed, tyres should be rotated even if it occurs before 9,000km.
Replacement occurs when old tyres are removed and your newly bought tyres are fitted to your vehicle. If tyres are well monitored and maintained, they wear evenly and will be due for replacement at the same time.
Replacing only two tires
While it is absolutely improper to replace only one tyre, we strongly advise that when replacing two new tires instead of four, be sure that your new tires are the same brand, size and tire type as your current tires, and that your dealer always installs the new tires on the rear axle of your vehicle (note however, that in Nigeria, due to very bad condition of roads and rare occurrence of wet roads, new tyres are always safely installed in the front axle). Only settle for another brand if the original brand is not available. When the tire type, brand and size are not available, it is most advisable that all four tyres should be changed together.
